Thomas M. Hughes Jr. 83, of Derry, died Thursday, August 25, at his home. He was born July 12, 1933 in Latrobe, the son of the late Thomas M. and Ethel Mae Schott Hughes Sr.

Tom was a member of the Derry Presbyterian Church, LaMonte Lodge #568F&AM, Derry and was a USArmy Korean War Veteran. A graduate of Penn State he was a Farmer and a retired Agriculture teacher from Derry Area High School where he had also been an advisor for FFA and the Young Farmers Adult Program. He had also taught in the Boyertown Area School District. Tom had also worked for the USDA as a ASCS field agent. He was a founding board member for the Ligonier Country Market, a Coles Cemetery Board member and Board member and supervisor for the Westmoreland County Fair.

In addition to his parents Tom was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years Jeannine A. Silvis Hughes and a son Mark T. Hughes.

He is survived by his daughter Lila Hughes(Robert Shaffer) 2 sons; David P. Hughes (Sandy) and Gerald J. Hughes (Dawn) all of Derry. A daughter-in-law Lisa Hughes of Pittsford, NY, Eight grandchildren; Sarah Pender(Andrew), Justin Hughes(Cynthia), Christopher, Erik, Aleksander, Trenton, Trevor and Rya Hughes. One great grandchild Lia Amelia Hughes.

Friends will be received Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8pm in the McCabe Funeral Home, 300 W. Third Avenue, Derry where a service will be conducted Monday at 11am. Interment will follow in the Coles Cemetery, Derry.

LaMonte Lodge #568 F&AM will conduct a service Sunday at 6pm in the funeral home.
