Milton Shaffer Obituary

Milton P. Shaffer, age 100, of Punxsutawney, went to be with the lord on Saturday, July 14, 2018, peacefully at the home where he was born, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Shaffer was born April 30, 1918. He was the son of the late Jesse and Mary Ann (Pifer) Shaffer. He was a farmer at heart who owned and operated the generational family farm. He also owned a sawmill where he cut props for the mines and cut the first poles for the electricity to be supplied to the community. He was always telling stories and had a very good memory of the history of Punxsutawney and the surrounding areas. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Violet (Rummel) Shaffer on March 1, 2015. They were married June 7, 1944. Together he and Violet had three daughters; Alice Lechner and husband Ellsworth, Judy McAdoo and husband Jerry, Janice Hartzell and friend Bill all of Punxsutawney. He leaves behind five grandchildren; Dr. James McAdoo of Florida, Jackie Neufeld and husband Dr. Todd Neufeld of Punxsutawney, Joey McAdoo and wife Deshonna of Punxsutawney, Joyce Good and husband Mike of Dayton, John Hartzell of Punxsutawney and great grandchildren; Christian, Eden, Jordan, Logan, Jeremiah, Katelyn, Jacob, Dawson, Keegan, Julia and Abby along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Violet, he was preceded in death by an infant son; James, twin brother of Alice, and a step brother; James Shaffer and a step sister; Mildred Mauk. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 pm Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at the McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney. A funeral service will be held at 11 am Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at the funeral home with Pastor Harold Haight officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
