Betty McCoy Obituary

Betty J. McCoy, 97, caring mother, wife, grandmother and friend, left us peacefully on March 23, 2023.
She was born to Irene and Harry Dull on February 8, 1926. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of forty-eight years, William "Jack" McCoy, brother Harry Dull, sister Yvonne Costabile and grandson Brent McCoy.
She is survived by her five loving children, Larry (Susan) McCoy, William "Bill" (Valerie) McCoy, Sally McCoy, Connie McCoy, and Betsy Wright, along with her eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
After graduating from Hurst High School, Betty worked at Kennametal until she met her future husband Jack. We love the story of how Dad took her out on his motorcycle when he first met her and purposely got her home late once he realized she had a date with someone else planned. It apparently worked because they proceeded to marry and shared many happy years together.
Betty was the definition of a working mother, as she was an elected tax collector for Fairfield Township for many years. She worked out of a home office in the dining room, with all five children and a menagerie of pets surrounding her and always managed  to maintain her sense of humor in the chaos.  Her love of pets, and there were many, was evident and she always allowed any stray that was brought home to become part of the family.
She is fondly remembered by many for her career at The Real McCoy's where she was a talented, hard working proprietor as well as a mentor and friend to many over the years of ownership. Once the business was sold Betty went on to create a new career as a real estate agent and sold homes throughout the Ligonier Valley. Along the way, she learned to play piano, was an accomplished seamstress and artist and volunteered tirelessly at Latrobe Hospital and  Bethlen Home.  She was a member of the Fort Palmer Presbyterian Church.
Although very accomplished, Betty would tell you that her biggest joy was her family and she loved to share their travels and exploits with all of her friends. She inspired us and guided us throughout our lives and was always our biggest supporter. She exemplified kindness and strength and was a friend to all who met her.
Friends will be received Saturday May 6, 2023 from 10am till 11am the time of service at the McCabe Funeral Home, 144 E. Main Street, Ligonier.
