John Richard "Ric" Phillips, Jr., 62

John Richard "Ric" Phillips, Jr., 62, passed away at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital on Monday, February 27, 2017.

Mr. Phillips was born on July 10, 1954 in Punxsutawney, a son of the late John R. Phillips and Irene (Gresock) Phillips who survives.

He married his wife Marianne (Vanyo) Phillips on August 26, 1978, who survives.

John graduated from the Berlin-American High School in Berlin, Germany in 1973. He served in the US Army as a Medic from 1973-1977, and was stationed in Ft. Hood, Texas.

John was employed by Tri-County Transportation and Krise Bus Company of Punxsutawney, where he drove school buses for the Punxsutawney Area School District and surrounding areas.

Mr. Phillips was an avid sports fan. He loved the sport of hockey and enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Penguins as well as the Pirates, and the Penn State Nittany Lions college football. He enjoyed tending to the garden, hunting, and being in the outdoors, especially walking on the Mahoning Shadow Trail in Sportsburg with his dog Gizmo before she passed.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife; Marianne (Vanyo) Phillips, two sons; Rod Phillips of Punxsutawney, Derek Phillips of Pittsburgh, three brothers; Mark Phillips (Amy) of Mechanicsburg, PA, Andrew Phillips (Chrissie) of Lewis Center, OH, Patrick Phillips of Punxsutawney, two sisters; Laura Jesse (John) of Punxsutawney, Colleen McKenzie (Regis) of Canonsburg, PA, along with several nephews, nieces, and cousins.

In addition to his father, Mr. Phillips is proceeded in death by his son Eric, who died in 2002.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Friday, March 3, 2017 at the McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at St. Adrian Roman Catholic Church of Delancey with Msgr. Joseph Riccardo as Celebrant.

Interment will follow at the Adrian Anita Catholic Cemetery in Anita.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mahoning Shadow Rails to Trails in Punxsutawney.
